Island Foods Provides Recycling Services

Island Foods has an Encorp Return-It Depot adjacent to its establishment. We offer a clean recycling depot open to the public to return various recyclable materials and collect refundable deposits on beverage containers. While our delivery trucks reach the northern regions of Vancouver Island, we want to make sure that we maximize the transport of products to and from remote areas.

We help our northern communities’ practice environmental stewardship by optimizing the use of our delivery fleet. Island Foods offers a cardboard material and beverage container recycling pick up service so that we can maximize efficiency on return trips from our deliveries. The pick up of these recyclable beverage containers are destined to return to the recycling depot operated by Encorp and Recycle BC collection.

Bottles, Cans & Beverage Container Recycling

Recycling beverage containers is an easy way to put a little more money back into your monthly budget or provide fundraising opportunities for your favourite local organizations. You can recycle containers from all beverages containers with a refundable deposit. In some cases, suppliers ask that you leave labels on, as they assist the Brewer’s Distributor Ltd collection system. Here are some basic guidelines:
> Aluminum Cans (tabs on, empty)
> Plastic bottles (labels on, caps on, empty)
> Drinking boxes (caps on, straws out, empty)
> Gable top cartons (caps on, empty)
> Glass bottles (labels on, caps on, empty)
> Plastic liquor bottles (caps on, labels on, empty)
> Glass liquor bottles ( caps on, labels on, empty)
> Bag in a Box – Alcohol (Leave Bag in Box, empty)

Wondering what happens to the items you recycle? This article explains the process of recycling, recycling aftermarkets and why it’s important to make recycling part of your routine.

Recycling For Remote Communities

Recycling protects our local environment from litter, reduces landfill waste, and lowers the demand for the raw materials that would be used to create new bottles, cans, and beverage containers. Island Foods is proud to bring recycling options to smaller and remote communities that may not have a municipal recycling contract. This helps to ensure that recyclable materials are kept out of the landfills and the ocean.
